What is Soda Blasting ?

Simply , using a stream of fast moving , clean , dry  air containing bicarbonate of soda to remove coatings and contaminants  without damaging the underlying surface.

Non Abrasive

 Because Soda crystals are much softer than conventional blasting media ( sand , garnet and many others) it can be sucessfuly used to clean softer materials like aluminium , copper , glass fibre , stone and brick that more aggressive media would destroy. (one of the first commercial jobs with this technology was cleaning the Statue of Liberty )

Soda crystals explode on impact and the released energy dislodges the coating being removed. Unlike more aggressive media , soda does not  eat into the surface underneath.

Environmentally Friendly - Food Safe
The Baking Soda we use is the same that is put in food ,the same as in some toothpastes and is 100% water soluble and can be flushed into drains without harm. This means there is much less clean up required than with conventional blasting media.

Because the soda crystals are lightweight they do not have the same micro-hammering effect as heavier media , this means that thin panels do not become stress relieved (oilcanning) or warped by being overheated by  friction . It has the added benefit, when cleaning cast items that the blasting does not peen shut micro cracks or damage bearing surfaces or oil seals . It also means it is safe to use on rubber and glass and will not cause sparks , so is safe to use in petrochemical and food  industries.

Baking soda absorbs odours so is ideal for remediation of fire and smoke damage and is great for removing mold.
