10 things you should know about Soda Blasting :
1. Soda Blasting will safely remove paint, filler and rust from steel ,aluminium , glassfibre and wood components without harm to the underlying material.
2.Because soda is soft, (2.5 on the Mohs hardness scale where talc = 1 and diamond = 10) it doesn't etch bearing surfaces , rubber seals or hydraulic rams.
3. Soda blasting is non - percussive. When heavy shot or beads hit a metal surface they have the effect of stress relieving it and can cause 'oil-canning ' in thin panels.
4. Because Soda is non abrasive it does not cause heat build up in the work piece and so no warping.
5.Soda 'saponifies' ( turns to soap) grease and oil , balling it up and blowing it away unlike other surface treatments which can just spread it out.
6.Soda blasting was used to clean the copper plating on the Statue of Liberty .
7. You can eat our soda ! it goes into many foods and even toothpastes.It's 100% soluble and flushes safely into drains which reduces cleanup times considerably.
8. Soda blasting also breaks down hydrocarbons, which makes it highly suitable for cleaning engines, engine parts and similar.
9.After Soda Blasting , the surface-tension of metals is not broken, which eliminates the problem of flash-rusting.
10. Because Soda is 100% soluble ,a quick rinse and dry ensures there is no abrasive left in the machinery to destroy it on start up after rebuild.
